Good afternoon 

Terry and I would thank all participants for their input and comments on the draft Concept Paper (both 
versions 1 and 2). We have received a wide range of views and positions regarding each of the proposed 
options. We also appreciate the current discussions regarding the organisation and agenda for TCC16. 
Therefore, we feel it is a useful time to take stock and assess the status of each issue/proposed option 
and participants’ respective positions. 

Accordingly, please find attached a Status Update document prepared by the Co-Chairs. 

This document summarises participants’ current positions on each of the three Proposed Options in the 
draft Concept Paper. The Co-Chairs also have included a recommended approach for participants’ 
consideration (based on comments/positions received so far). In addition, we have included a further 
list of issues drawn from the WCPFC Secretariat’s VMS Background Paper. These are listed in the 
attached document as Issues 4 – 12, and have been compiled based on suggestions from participants.

Participants are asked provide comments on the attached (and particularly the proposed conclusions 
and recommendations) by 4 September 2020.  

As always, we welcome all feedback and engagement and both Terry and I are available to discuss if you 
have any questions.

Dear VMS SWG participants

Just a quick note to let you know that Terry and I are working through the most recent round of 
participants’ comments on the draft Concept Paper. Now that we have had significant feedback on 
various VMS issues and options we thought it best to provide a status update to inform any next steps.

We intend to distribute a draft document for your consideration next week.
