Catch Documentation Scheme

At WCPFC9 a terms of reference for an Intersessional Working Group on Catch Documentation Scheme (IWG-CDS) was agreed, and a budgetary allocation for a first meeting of the IWG-CDS was included in the approved 2013 budget.

2013

The first CDS Working Group Meeting was held October 1 2013, Palikir Pohnpei, FSM (meeting documents can be accessed here).  The summary report is posted below.

WCPFC10 received the first report of CDS-IWG.  WCPFC10 noted the progress of the IWG-CDS and endorsed its plan to produce an analysis of existing CDS-related initiatives for discussion prior to TCC10.   A modest budget was approved for a meeting to be held immediately prior to TCC10.

2014

The Agreed plan for the CDS-IWG moving forward, as attached to the first report of the CDS-IWG requested interested CCMs to provide interesessionally to the Secretariat update reports on their implementation of current CDS-related intiatitves (domestic tracking schemes, as well as certification schemes for product in the WCPFC Convention Area).  The reports may also include operational issues and capacity requirements (see d) of CDS-IWG TOR).  The original deadline was end of Nov 2013, but FFA members noted in the WCPFC10 summary report that end of March 2014 was a more appropriate deadline.

A workshop was held in Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia on 24th September 2014 - and the main document considered was a consultancy report (2014-CDS-IWG-02).  Copies of meeting documents and the report can be found here

2015

WCPFC11 approved the CDS-IWG workplan for 2015.  There are two steps in the workplan: 1. circulation by the Secretariat of a list of topics considered to be key elements for consideration by the CDS-IWG (draws on the consultants report (2014-CDS-IWG-02) and the FFA delegation paper (2014-CDS-IWG-DP01); 2. a meeting of the CDS-IWG immediately prior to TCC, which considers discussion papers prepared based on intersessional discussions. http://www.wcpfc.int/meetings/cds-iwg-2015   On 24 March 2015 a WCPFC Circular was sent to CCMs confirming the arrangements for the CDS-IWG Circular 2015/16
