Jeju Island, Korea, June 2026. The WCPFC Secretariat participated in the 10th Anniversary of the FAO Agreement on Port State Measures (PSMA) in Jeju Island, Republic of Korea, followed by the Sixth Meeting of the Technical Working Group on Information Exchange (TWG-IE6) and the Ninth Meeting of the Global Record Working Group (GRWG9). Ms. Eidre Sharp, WCPFC Deputy Compliance Manager, represented the Secretariat at the meetings.
The events marked a decade of international cooperation to strengthen port State measures and combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, while providing an opportunity to consider priorities for the next phase of implementation.
Discussions focused on strengthening the PSMA Global Information Exchange System (GIES) and the Global Record, with particular attention to data quality, vessel identification, interoperability with RFMOs and regional systems, and more effective information exchange.
For the WCPFC, the outcomes will contribute to the ongoing review of the Port State Measures Conservation and Management Measure (CMM), including efforts to streamline reporting, strengthen linkages between the FFA e-PSM system and GIES, and improve the availability and use of information to support compliance and operational decision-making across the region.
