Kolonia, Pohnpei, FSM, August 2026. Yaizu Fisheries High School Students Visit WCPFC
The WCPFC Secretariat welcomed three students from Yaizu Fisheries High School, Japan, during an educational visit to Pohnpei in August 2026.
The visit provided the students with an opportunity to learn more about the role of the WCPFC and the work undertaken by the Secretariat to support the conservation and management of highly migratory fish stocks in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean.
The students made a brief courtesy visit to the Executive Director, Ms. Rhea Moss-Christian, who welcomed them to the Secretariat and shared an overview of the Commission and its work.
The courtesy visit was followed by a presentation from Mr. Joseph Jack, MCS Team Leader, and Mr. Van David, Vessel Management Officer (VMO), providing a general overview of the WCPFC, its role, functions and the work of the Secretariat in supporting sustainable fisheries management across the Western and Central Pacific Ocean.
The visit provided a valuable opportunity for the students to gain first-hand insight into regional fisheries management and the importance of international cooperation in the sustainable management of Pacific tuna resources. It also supported knowledge-sharing and engagement between the WCPFC Secretariat and fisheries education institutions in Japan.
