Invitation to Fishermen for the 5th International Fishers Forum 2-5 August 2010

INVITATION TO FISHERMEN FOR THE FIFTH INTERNATIONAL FISHERS FORUM

The Western Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Council (WPRFMC) and the Fisheries Agency of Taiwan are co-hosting the upcoming Fifth International Fishers Forum (IFF5) in Taipei on August 2-5, 2010. WPRFMC is looking to invite fishermen from various regions to participate in this event, and they have some travel scholarships available for those who are interested in participating in the forum, with priority awards given to fishermen.

The central objective of IFF5 is to bring the fishing industry into the relatively recent dialogue of marine spatial planning and management. The Forum participants will also take stock of progress made during the period of the Forum series in mitigating problematic interactions with sea turtles, seabirds, sharks and marine mammals and provide a forward look through the identification of priority conservation and management areas in need of increased attention to ensure long-term environmental and socioeconomic sustainability.

Registration information, online registration, and scholarship applications are available at: https://www.regonline.com/IFF5

For more information on the IFF series and previous Forums, visit: www.fishersforum.net and for the more information on IFF5 please contact WPRFMC Protected Species Coordinator, Asuka Ishizaki at asuka.ishizaki@noaa.gov.
