About the Preparatory Conference

After four years of negotiations between the coastal States of the Western and Central Pacific and the States fishing in that region, the Convention on the Conservation and Management of Highly Migratory Fish Stocks in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean was opened for signature at Honolulu on 5 September 2000.

Vacancies / Opportunities

The Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission was established by coastal and fishing States of the western and central Pacific Ocean (WCPO) to ensure, through effective management, the long-term conservation and sustainable use of highly migratory fish stocks in the WCPO.

The establishment of the Commission, which held its first meeting at Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), in December 2004, provides a mechanism for the coordination of conservation measures for highly migratory fish stocks throughout their range.
